WEEK 2   August 31st

TOPIC:  Quick Crits and Project 1

§  Review CRITIQUE Structure and Guidelines

§  Quick CRITS of 10 minute sculptures

§  SlideShow: Thinking with Your Hands, Modified Ready Mades

§  Brief Introduction to Project 1: Class Listening Exercise:

o   Jeff Buckley

o   Choir, Choir, Choir  

§  Homework Assignment:

o   Write Object Poem.

o   Begin Project 1: start exploring materials and bring materials and tests to class.

o   Modify a Ready Made and return it to its natural habitat. Document and present documentation in next class.

WEEK 3September 7th

TOPIC: Transcendant Excess

WEEK 5   September 21st

TOPIC: CRITIQUE and Introduction to Next Project

o   Three conceptual proposals for Project 2 due next class.

WEEK 6   September 28th

TOPIC: Woodshop Demo

§  Woodshop Demo

§  Drawing Modification: After seeing the woodshop demo and having a better sense of the processes, modify your original ideas and make more refined drawings for one of your proposals, due next class.

§  Homework Assignment:

o   Complete Proposal

o   All materials for working on Project 2 due next class; START WORKING!

o   Process Book to be reviewed (for feedback only) next class

WEEK 7 October 5th

*** Exhibition Notes and selfies from New Museum were due September 30th.  I also still need images of your work from the last critique from most of you and images from your 10 minute sculptures from some of you. You won't receive a grade on those projects if you don't email me images. ***

o   Bring plaster working tools, a very clean 1 gallon bucket, latex gloves, dust masks, a clear plastic bag (a bread bag is ideal), twine and rubber bands to next class

o   Reading: Chapter 5 from On Longing

o   Research:   The Artist's Multiple, Joseph Beuys

 

WEEK 9   October 19th

TOPIC: Multiples and Fictional Events

§  Research Day:

  1. Read and click through to links in this article.
  2. Spend time on this site.
  3. Watch the film The Yes Men Fix the World  (The Yes Men are experts on fictionalizing events and public announcements.)
  4. Review the slide show below, regarding souvenirs and multiples
  5. Do your independent research for your project. Remember you have lots due next week, and you should already have read the chapter from On Longing.

Homework:

o   Complete Public Announcement for Project 3.

o   Complete Proposal for Project 3

o   Bring plaster working tools, a very clean 1 gallon bucket, latex gloves, dust masks, a clear plastic bag (a bread bag is ideal), twine and rubber bands to next class

o   Bring whatever tools and materials you need for your project to class
